THE first company in Australia licensed to cultivate and manufacture medicinal cannabis is working at a closely guarded, top secret location on the Sunshine Coast.

Medifarm founder Adam Benjamin said the company had invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in security to ensure the cannabis did not fall into the wrong hands.

"We have had discussions with senior police in Queensland as well as military personnel," Mr Benjamin said.

"I cannot disclose the exact details, but there will be state-of-the art 24-hour surveillance (and) scanners to isolate and track who is on the property, supported by back-to-base alarms."
