MARIAH Carey has walked into controversy during a publicity tour of Israel, where she is promoting a new partnership with a local skincare line.

She's encountering one big problem when dealing with Israeli journalists, who would rather ask curly questions about her billionaire ex-fiance James Packer than chat about her beauty regimen.

Specifically, reporters want to probe Carey about her knowledge of a wideranging corruption investigation that has threatened to bring down Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

One of the allegations from the investigation: That the Prime Minister's people had accepted free tickets from James Packer to one of Carey's concerts.

One interviewer asked her about a dinner she'd attended with Packer and Netanyahu. Did she notice the pair had a particularly strong bond?

"I was eating the food, they had some food there that was pretty good ... you know? I don't know, I don't know ... I was just invited to a dinner," she responded.

The interviewer asked if she knew where Packer was now.

"I don't know where the motherf**ker is, I don't know! He's somewhere doing something," she said.

"I really have no idea about the political stuff that goes on, I really don't. I don't pay attention to it."

It was a familiar scene in another interview, when a reporter again tried to steer the conversation to Carey's ex and his ties with the Netanyahus.

"I don't really pay attention to politics, darling ..."

The reporter explained that the gift of concert tickets was "not allowed" and had caused quite a stir.

"Oh, now they want to blame me? Someone wants to blame me for something now? What did I do? I didn't do anything. I concentrate on the singing and the show."

At this, Carey's publicist could be heard in the background trying to wrap up the interview, but Carey persisted:
"That sucks. Honestly, I feel bad if that happened. I'm just trying to do me."

Come on Mariah, you've already got a failsafe response to questions like this. 'Netanyahu? I don't know her ...'
