Maranoa riders saddle up for state championships

LUCY Stanford has been riding horses ever since she could walk.

Now, she's one of the participants in the upcoming PCAQ State Championships in October, who will campdraft, formal gymkhana and mounted games.

The event is set to draw riders from across the states, with up to 300 people competing in QLD alone and more expected to come from NSW.

With her parents having been involved with horses all her life, Lucy was easily drawn to the allure of the pony club.

"I got involved through mum and dad, and then my love of horses evolved from that point," Lucy said.

"I love the jumping classes."

The upcoming competition could be a big step for Lucy, as she wants to become a professional in the industry.

"I'd love to show everyone how much I've improved, and go on to bigger heights," Lucy said.

The PCAQ championships will be held in Bassett' Park between October 1 and 4.
