Basketball: The Maranoa teams travelled to Kingaroy over the weekend, ending their 14-game representative season.

Both the under-12 mixed and under-14 boys finished on a high, clean sweeping their opposition with two wins apiece.

Both teams took on regional sides from Gympie and Kingaroy in a steamy, hot conditions.

The under-s12 side narrowly won one of

their game over Gympie with a 'Hail Mary, buzzer beater from Runako

House .

They also beat Kingaroy quite comfortably in their second match.

Maranoa coach Mat Gane was impressed with the team's efforts.

"I wasn't surprised when I was told Runako hit the winning shot,” Gane said.

"Runako practices all the time, is very dedicated with his basketball and can hit big shots from a long way out.”

Gane said it was a great way to finish a long representative season.

"We travelled to St George, Charleville, Emerald, Blackwater, Toowoomba, Kingaroy and also had a home carnival in Roma,” he said.

"All up, the teams have played 16 games this season and the only way to get better is to play harder teams and that's what we set out to do this year.

"Overall the players have steadily improved over the season, very few missed practice or fixtures each week and we steadily increase the difficulty of training throughout each term.”

Gane said all the teams did very well overall as they had been playing together for a long time.

"They understand the Maranoa style of play, and they have fun, which is the main reason why we play,” he said.

"Thank you to the parents, the coaches and volunteers who have made this season possible.”

Maranoa Basketball will continue with school holiday clinics, with the first one coming up in December and a second one in January in Roma.

Weekly fixtures will recommence in the new year, with a second sign-on during term one on February 8, 2019.
