Maranoa election latest

MAYOR Robert Loughnan leads a tight three way contest half way through the count of the Maranoa Mayoral election.

At 9.30pm Saturday they had counted 2443 out of the 5386 votes received by 6pm (the electoral roll is 8240).

Robert Loughnan was a narrow leader from surprise candidate Tyson Golder who trails the current Mayor by just 13 votes. Baden Waldron is close behind in third with 769. Sharon Wraight has 79.

A long night lies ahead and with so many votes still unaccounted for, a result may not be declared.

Counting has also started in the councillor elections.

More to come.
