Maranoa duo Sarah Guthrie and Hayley Miller win at Go Girls Series
TWO of the Maranoa’s finest female motocross riders have walked away from the final round of the Go Girls Racing Series with titles to prove it.
Sarah Guthrie and Hayley Miller were both named Queensland Female Motocross champions for their age groups – Guthrie for Senior Women and Hayley for Mini Lites 12-16 years.
For 16-year-old Hayley, 2016 will her final year as a junior rider, making her win on the weekend all the sweeter.
“I went alright – I could’ve done better if I trained more,” she said.
“This is my biggest achievement so far.
“This is my last year as junior, so I’m going to the Australian Titles (later this year) as a junior to do well.”
More than 150 riders, mostly female, converged on Roma for the two-day event.
Hayley said the chance to race only against girls was an opportunity she relished.
“It’s just fun to race against girls and not worry about the boys,” she said.
“Sometimes they (boys) get a little bit loose on the track, going all over the show.
“I just have good technique and I can go faster – the more technique, the better you ride.”
Hayley’s mother Terri said she was hoping her daughter took her current form into the Nationals in late September.
“All of the girls she beat on the weekend placed higher than her at the Nationals last year,” she said.
“There are a couple of girls who moved up this year so they also won’t be competing.”
Other local females who competed well in the titles included Megan Janulis, Hannah Knight, Rhee Miller, Aimee Zohl, Bryde Ries, Lauren Betts and Tarlia Pearson, who finished third in her category.
Several local support male riders competed in the support classes over the weekend, with several of them making the podium for overall places in the GGRA series.
