Maranoa Basketball season finale and award winners

Junior Maranoa Basketball teams have finished up for the season and with an increase in players overall, organisers are left excited about the future of the Maranoa Basketball Association (MBA).

The season finale ended with junior presentations, coaches vs players and the U21 finals on Friday, March 26.

Mat Gane, Present of MBA said the club had a great season with organisers taking the association to the next level and running junior competition, saying the community really got behind them.

"We can't thank our volunteers, coaches and sponsors enough for a great season in which we ran three junior divisions, a trial Open Mixed Season and two representative sides, all as COVID restrictions were easing," Matt said.

"It's been a massive season, everything overlapped after the COVID restrictions were eased and there was a rush to get back to junior sport in a big way."

The MBA junior season ended on a high with a three round finals series and some very competitive matches going into overtime.

The U12s was very competitive with the Wedgetails narrowly beating the Bielbies by two points.

In the U15s game, the Bielbies got the win by four points in a tough match against the Sugar Gliders who finished fast but unfortunately ran out of time.

And in the U21s game, it was the Wedgetails that were victorious over the Walleroo's by eight points.

"As you can see from the scorelines the games were super competitive, the teams were well balanced with some Maranoa representative players spread out over the competition among new players," Mr Gane said.

"We don't have a club system here in the Maranoa so we had to make one up from scratch, it was a lot of hard work but that paid off.

"We are really excited about the next summer season, we've had a lot of inquiries to add another junior division, possibly an U8s, but that of course relies on recruiting more volunteers, coaches, sponsors to make that happen."

The new season will be announced in August, so stay tuned to their Facebook page.

"Once it heats up out west you know it's basketball time," Mr Gane said.
