Maranoa ballers wrap up a strong 2018 season
Basketball: After a highly competitive start to the 2019 season, the Maranoa Basketball Association had a night off training to celebrate its strong 2018 season.
Trophies were handed out as the members celebrated representative success, the introduction of more junior teams and working hard to make regional competitions.
MBA president Mat Gane said it was a great night as the club wrapped up the 2018 season and incorporated the AGM, which drew a large turnout.
"There was a lot of trophies given out,” he said.
"A lot of kids have been working hard for the past few years.
"We made a lot significant gains in terms of local basketball in the rep space and school space.
"We also expanded and introduced an under-8s and U10s team.”
Gane said a significant standout in 2018, from a team perspective, was the travel commitments and the players working hard to go to regional competitions.
"We went to Toowoomba for the Darling Downs championships, we didn't come away with too many wins but we found we were competitive,” he said.
"At a regional level, we also went to Kingaroy and we played Gympie.
"All of our teams won their, that was a good indicator that our program is on track and the coaching is working and the kids are getting an opportunity.”
