Jose’s plan to ship out Pogba as Reds eye $106m target

MANCHESTER United are out of the Champions League, and almost instantly there are a slew of transfer rumours linking them to big names.

That includes one of their biggest names departing, with links emerging of an audacious swap deal to ship out Paul Pogba.

Plus updates on Liverpool's pursuit of Timo Werner as we wrap up the latest Manchester United and Liverpool transfer news in Rumour Mill!

MOURINHO'S SUMMER PLANS TO SHIP OUT POGBA

Paul Pogba is one of the biggest conundrums faced by Manchester United, and The Independent is reporting Jose Mourinho is prepared to consider getting rid of the club's record signing all together.

With the French midfield ace on the bench to start United's UCL loss to Sevilla - having previously this season been dropped in favour of rookie Scott McTominay - Marco Verratti has emerged as a direct alternative in a stunning swap deal.

With both Pogba and Verratti sharing Mino Raiola as their agent - the man who pulled the strings in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez's swap - United are confident, but some way off, making another major player exchange.

The Independent also reports an intermediary has been brought in in an attempt to repair Mourinho and Pogba's fracturing relationship.

There are also talks of seven potential off-season exits - including David De Gea - as Mourinho looks to overhaul the squad.

On the hit list is a new centre back, with Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti and Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld favoured.

Meanwhile, The Sun has reported a £60m (AU$106m) move for Chelsea star Willian is on the cards, while A Bola in Portugal have named Besiktas star Anderson Talisca as a shock £35.5m ($63m) target.

JOSE'S FUTURE FAR FROM SAFE

But while Mourinho is planning another transfer window of big spending, a couple of UK reports have emerged which suggest the Portuguese manager's future is far from safe.

With just the FA Cup and second spot in the Premier League to play for, Mourinho has come under huge scrutiny for the manner in which his side crashed out of the Champions League against Sevilla.

Now, The Mirror reports the Special One is "set for a showdown" with the club hierarchy, with the main talking point being plans for spending.

Yet at the same time, The Daily Mail is claiming senior figures at the club are now pondering if Mourinho is fit for the top job at their club.

A rumour to watch, if Mourinho's men go trophyless this season.

LIVERPOOL'S BID FOR $106M-RATED STRIKER

Elsewhere in the north-west of England, reports have emerged that Liverpool are in the hunt for a mooted Manchester United target.

The Independent have claimed the Reds are "monitoring" RB Leipzig star Timo Werner in an attempt to lure the striker in the summer alongside already-signed teammate Naby Keita.

"It is Jurgen Klopp who has shown by far the strongest interest," the paper reports, with United also keeping an eye on the German ace.

With Werner likely to cost in the region of £50-60m (AU$88-106m), the 24-year-old has netted 17 this Bundesliga campaign after last season grabbing 21.

But what could be of concern is Werner's past assertion that a shift to the Red Devils would be his dream.

"Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me," he told FourFourTwo.

"I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.

"But probably not in the next few years - later, when my English is a little bit better! I'm very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though."

In other Liverpool transfer news, The Mirror reports Bayern Munich are set to join Juventus and Liverpool for Emre Can's signature. Can is out of contract and has publically stated he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season.

Finally, The Express claims Real Madrid's Keylor Navas has joined Stoke's Jack Butland and Roma's Alisson Becker as potential goalkeeper targets for Klopp's side.
