Checks on shopping centre car park fail to find teen

UPDATE: Checks on a shopping centre car park failed to locate a teen reported to be carrying a jerry can of petrol and threatening to light it on fire.

Emergency services were called to Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre about 4.25pm after a teen left the neighbouring 7-Eleven and reportedly made the threats.

Police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended but did not locate the teen.

EARLIER, 4.30PM: A teenager is reportedly threatening to light himself on fire at the Clifford Gardens shopping centre in Newtown.

Police have called for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to attend the scene.

Initial reports suggest the teenager is carrying a jerrycan and is threatening to light himself on fire in the shopping centre car park bordered by James St.

The incident was reported to authorities about 4.25pm.
