Man tased in the eye while attacking police

POLICE will investigate an incident that took place overnight in Chinchilla.

Shortly before 11pm, police were called to a residence on Zeller Street in response to reports of a man armed with knives and making threats.

Upon police arrival, the man was reported to be in a highly agitated state and making verbal threats towards police.

After an extended period of verbal negotiations with him from outside the house, the man picked up a knife and ran towards police through a security screen.

Police deployed a single Taser cycle, but the man then attempted to pick up another knife, resulting in police deploying a second Taser cycle.

During the incident, the man was struck in his left eye by one of the Taser probes.

The man was restrained by police and then transported to Chinchilla Hospital for treatment.  This morning he is being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for further treatment.

Ethical Standards Command will overview an investigation into this incident.
