Man charged with lighting house fire in Injune

POLICE have charged an 18-year-old man with arson after a property in Injune was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday morning.

The man will appear before the Roma Magistrate's Court in February charged with intentionally setting fire to the Ronald Street property.

Injune residents called emergency services to the fire on Tuesday morning, less than twelve hours after another blaze erupted at a different house on the same street.

Injune and Roma fire fighters managed to contain the first fire on Monday night, before it caused significant damage to the property.

Roma Acting Senior Sergeant Sian Jacobs said enquiries were continuing into the cause of the first blaze.

"We're looking to see if the two are linked," Sergeant Jacobs said.

"We're also seeking information into a number of grass fires which have occurred in recent times in Injune and the surrounds."

Sergeant Jacobs said anyone with information about these fires or the current matter should contact the Roma police station on 4622 9333.
