A MAN, 21, has been charged with high-range drink-driving on a motorised esky in Camden on Australia Day.

Police said highway patrol officers saw the man riding the petrol-powered Esky southbound on Argyle St about 7.30pm.

They said the man, from Elderslie, was travelling at about 20km/hr in a 50km/hr zone and other traffic was forced to slow and move around him.

The Esky was ridden around the John St roundabout and back down Argyle St as a group of males filmed from a balcony.

Police inspected the petrol-powered Esky and said its construction met the classification of a motor vehicle however it was not registered to be ridden on the road.

Officers will allege the man returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.162.

He was charged with high-range drink-driving and using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle on a road and is due to appear at Picton Local Court on February 28.

Camden police said that while it may appear to be a funny stunt to ride motorised vehicles they present a danger as they are too small to be easily seen by other drivers on the road.

They also said the rider would be less able to assess danger and risk.
