Man charged after the fall of another man from high rise

UPDATE: Detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall of a 38-year-old man from a Surfers Paradise building this morning have charged a man.

Police will allege the man fell from the sixth floor balcony of an Orchid Avenue apartment complex around 6:45am following a disturbance.

The man, a 38-year-old from Surfers Paradise, was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A 39-year-old Surfers Paradise man has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and he is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on January 19.

Police investigations are continuing.

EARLIER: Gold Coast detectives are investigating after a man fell from a Surfers Paradise high rise this morning.

Preliminary information indicates the man fell from the sixth floor balcony of an Orchid Avenue apartment complex around 6:45am.

The man, a 38-year-old from Surfers Paradise, was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Police have established a crime scene and are treating the matter as suspicious.

Detectives have spoken to a number of people in relation to the incident and are appealing for anyone who was in the Orchid Avenue entertainment precinct between 5:00am and 6:45am this morning to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
