Man charged after girl taken from bed
A YOUNG man has been charged after a six-year-old girl was allegedly taken from her bed and assaulted at a home south of Brisbane this week.
Police allege the 19-year-old man broke into a house at Loganlea about 5am Monday, grabbed a six-year-old girl out of bed and carried the sleeping child down the stairs of the Pinelands St home.
Detectives had earlier in the week alleged the girl had her mouth covered by a hand, at which point she woke.
The child screamed and the man allegedly assaulted her by striking her in the face, prompting him to flee the house.
The girl's parents were alerted by the girl's screams and called police.
It was believed the alleged offender had scaled a fence and broke into home by reaching through a dog door unlock the back door of the house.
Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ralston had earlier in the week said the girl's injuries were not significant.
Police this morning confirmed a 19-year-old Loganlea man has been charged after a search warrant on a Haig Street address last night was executed.
Further investigations revealed the man is also alleged to have entered a Spruce Street home around 11pm on Tuesday by cutting the flyscreen to a rear bedroom window and climbing into to the residence.
He then located a backpack containing a number of items including a credit card before being confronted by the occupant and fleeing the residence with the backpack.
He is alleged to have then used the stolen credit card at two service stations.
He has been charged with one count each of assault with intent to commit rape, enter dwelling with intent, stealing, armed robbery, burglary, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and three counts of fraud.
The man has also been charged with armed robbery and assault occasioning bodily harm in relation to investigations relating to the hold up of a Morningside bottle shop in July last year.
The man has been denied police bail and is expected to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court this morning.
The arrest comes after CCTV footage of a male on a bike was released on Monday as officers appealed to the public for help.
