Man airlifted after severing fingers in sawmill accident

A 68-YEAR-old Maranoa man is being treated in hospital after severely injuring himself in a sawmill accident earlier today.

The man was working on a small circular saw at the Mungallala Sawmill, approximately 140 kilometres west of Roma, when the accident occurred this morning.

It is believed he severed several fingers on his right hand.

CareFlight's Roma-based Surat Gas Aero-Medical Service (SGAS) helicopter arrived on the scene at 8.40am.

The man was transported via helicopter to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment

A spokesperson from CareFlight said the incident was “serious”, but the man remains in a stable condition.

More to come.
