Major search underway as surfer goes missing at Main Beach

AN air, sea and land search involving multiple agencies is currently underway for a missing surfer at Main Beach.

At 6am, a fisherman observed a male surfer become separated from his board and submerge under a wave at The Spit.

The fisherman did not see the man resurface.

A vehicle belonging to a 34-year-old Coomera man has been located in the Seaway carpark, however, the owner has not been located.

Police are currently working with family and friends to establish the man's movements, and hold serious concerns for his welfare.

Officers are urging anyone who located a white surfboard with light green colouring to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The search involving police, water police and other agencies will continue until dusk.

Police patrols will conduct land searches throughout the night.

An aerial, sea and land search will resume at first light.
