Luncheon to celebrate a ‘classic country woman’

ALEX Taylor was always considered the ‘classic country woman’ – she could cook, sew, create and organise better than almost anyone.

Now four of the closest friends of Ms Taylor are now honouring her with a luncheon next month, in the hope of raising thousands for the Roma Hospital Auxiliary.

The Alex Taylor Memorial Lunch will be run at Bassett Park on June 18, with organisers Puddy Chandler, Susie Ferrier, Netty Jensen and Liz Frith hoping to get 300 patrons to enjoy food, drinks raffles, auctions and guest speakers.

Ms Taylor passed away 18 months ago after battling cancer, but Ms Chandler said the event was part of the group’s grieving process, having lost someone who displayed the “best of country women”.

“She was a very good friend of ours – it’s actually part of our grieving process in a way,” she said.

“People ask us why we’re doing it, and I say it’s because we don’t want them to forget who she was.

“She was a classic country woman – a great cook, volunteer and mother.

“It will be a happy occasion because we want it to be a celebration of her life,” Ms Jensen added.

Tickets for the event must be pre-purchased, with guests to RSVP by June 5.
