Roma locals trim waistlines in 2015
ROMA residents were put to the test that had them lose unwanted kilograms in the Battle of the Bulge.
More than 50 teams battled it out in the 12-week challenge that finished on December 10, with residents losing an average of 5.2cm off their waists.
The challenge focused on waist loss rather than weight loss, with 284 people participating and 241 completing their weight-loss challenge.
Roma community nutritionist Rohan Ballon said there were record numbers this year, and the event was always well supported.
"There was a 30% workshop attendance over the 12 weeks, and an average waist loss of 5.2cm for Roma residents," Mr Ballon said.
"The winners were power couple James and Rachel Jenes, who were the male and female winner," he said.
"James lost 11cm from his waist and lost 8.5kg, Rachel had a waist loss of 13cm and lost 17kg.
"Belly Flat were the family group winners with a 7.6% weight loss."
Mr Ballon said it was great to see the program rise in popularity in 2015.
"It was really encouraging to see the community support behind the program, and being active and making healthy choices, and it will continue into the future," he said.
"It was good for the whole district, and there was good weight loss; Roma just beat St George in the Battle of the Bulge."
