LNP landslide election win
THE Liberal National Party has won a watershed election victory in Queensland smashing the ruling Labor Party which can now count its new parliamentary members on two hands.
Campbell Newman will be the new Premier after winning Ashgrove with a swing of 16 percent.
The LNP is likely to take over 75 seats in the 89 seat chamber including the safe seat of Warrego where Howard Hobbs was returned for the tenth time with a substantial margin of victory.
Mr Hobbs took 58 percent of the vote with a three way tie for second between Labor's David Bowden, Katter's Australian Party's Rob Earixson and Independent Mark O'Brien who all polled 14 percent.
At a victory celebration with supporters in Roma, Howard Hobbs said he was delighted with the result which showed Queenslanders had decided on a new direction.
"This is a very historic day today, something you will not see again for the next 25 years," Mr Hobbs said.
"We in the conservative side have seen this one or two times against us so it is good it swings back.
Mr Hobbs said the LNP had a lot to do now they were in government.
"We have a very strong mandate to implement all of our 90 policies," he said.
"But we will still consult with Queenslanders as we do that."
Mr Hobbs said the resource to the regions policy was of particular importance to his constituents.
"People want to see some of the wealth exported out of the region coming back," he said.
"We will resource our roads, we will resource our communities and we will do flood plain security."
Mr Hobbs also said their coal seam gas policy was very responsible.
"It allows the industry to continue but it also it also makes it fairer both for the CSG companies and the landholders," he said.
"There must be better remuneration for landholders and there needs to be a better process to protect our environment and our underground water."
