Littlies ready to roll into PCYC's new kinder gym

STRUGGLING to find something for her youngest daughter to do, Casey Schultz has decided to try a new program run at Roma PCYC - kinder gym.

From next week, daughter Cecilia Pearn, aged 20 months, will join nine other children in the first class of the term, run by PCYC's Jacquie Lait.

"There's nothing else really for younger kids to do in town but go and play in the park,” Ms Schultz said.

"This will be a great chance for her to get out and socialise with other kids.”

Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Ms Lait will run two classes - a 9am class for children aged 18 months to three, and a 10am class for those aged 3 to 5.

"We're pretty much booked out in every class already,” she said.

"It's a way to introduce children to some basic gymnastic movements like rolling, balancing and swinging. It will also be a chance for pre-kindy and kindergarten aged children to socialise.

"By doing this, by the time they get to kindy and into school, they'll have an understanding of following instructions,” she said.

"I did a course in Brisbane a few weekends ago and learned how to run the course.”

Sergeant Greg Caletti of Roma PCYC said the kinder gym had been made possible by a donation from Inala PCYC.

"They stopped running their program and they said we could have the equipment if we wanted it,” he said.

"Once upon a time we ran a gymnastics program at this centre, but it has been a while.

"We're very excited to get some of our younger kids involved.”
