Little fish dives into big city

SWIMMING: Roma All Star Patrick Moloney has won the 12-year-old age champion at the southwest swimming trials on Friday and will be heading to Brisbane at the end of March.

Patrick, alongside his fellow All Stars, travelled to Chinchilla last Friday in the last carnival of the season to cement a spot in the South West Swim Team who will travel to the state championships at the end of the month.

Patrick placed first in many events on the day and will find out later this week exactly what events he will be racing in, but he said he hoped he gets a chance at backstroke.

"My favourite stroke would have to be backstroke because I find that I am relaxed when I swim it,” he said.

"Making it into the South West Swim Team has been my favourite swimming achievement so far and it has inspired me to continue to swim competitively.”

The youngster has been competitively swimming for the last two years but the 2018/19 swim season has been his best, shaving seconds off all his personal best times throughout the season.

Patrick said his family and himself were proud of his achievements and that his success is due to his mates in the pool at Roma All Stars Swimming Club.

"I like being a Roma All Star because I have made lots of new friends that I get to swim with every week at swim club in the Roma pool,” he said.

"We have lots of fun at Stacey's swim squads too, we go away to carnivals and I get to swim with them in a team.”

Patrick said his goal for this season was to make the South West team and now achieving that he will continue to work hard.

"I would like to keep getting faster and faster and become a Olympic swimmer and swim for Australia,” he said.
