Sex crimes against patients: Lismore doctor arrested

FRIDAY 6.15am: POLICE from Richmond Local Area Command have released more information about the arrest of a Lismore specialist doctor over sex crimes against patients.

Police said that at 7.30am on Wednesday November 2, Lismore Detectives and the Richmond Crime Management Unit executed a search warrant at a medical centre in Uralba St, Lismore.

It was at that location that a  61-year-old man was arrested taken to Lismore Police Station, and charged.

UPDATE 5.50pm: RICHMOND Local Area Command crime manager, Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Lindsay, said the charges against a Northern Rivers doctor were the culmination of an eight-month investigation.

It was launched in March after a 21-year-old woman reported to police that she was sexually assaulted during a specialist appointment in Lismore.

Further investigations revealed two other women were also allegedly indecently assaulted.

"These charges relate to a person being an authority and committing an alleged sexual assault," Chief Insp Lindsay said.

"It is difficult to investigate.

"Obviously these are very sensitive matters for the people involved and it's taken great courage for these women to come forward."

Chief Insp Lindsay said police offered a range of counselling for the victims.

The doctor was granted conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on Monday, November 28.
 

 

THURSDAY 8.10am: A NORTHERN Rivers doctor has been charged over alleged sexual and indecent assaults committed against three women this year.

In March 2016, a 21-year-old woman reported to police that she was sexually assaulted during a specialist appointment in Lismore.

Further investigations revealed two other women were also allegedly indecently assaulted.

About 7.30am yesterday, detectives from Richmond Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a medical clinic in Lismore, seizing a number of items.

A 61-year-old man was arrested at the location and taken to Lismore Police Station.

He was charged with four counts of aggravated indecent assault - victim under authority of offender and one count of aggravated sexual assault - victim under authority of offender.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on Monday November 28.

Police encourage any person who has been a victim of sexual assault to report the matter to police for investigation.

Reports can be made to any police station.
