Lisch stars against former side as Kings thrash Hawks
BASKETBALL: The Sydney Kings have cemented their spot on the top of the NBL ladder with a 90-73 defeat of Illawarra last night.
Sydney's Kevin Lisch, who won the league's MVP award playing for the Hawks last season, led the way for his new club, scoring 19 points to go with eight rebounds and six steals.
Kings coach Andrew Gaze was pleased with his side's defensive effort to shut out the visitors after the break, particularly after the Hawks led by four points late in the first half.
"At half-time it was a matter of which team was going to apply defensive pressure, but I never thought we'd crank it up to the level we did,” he said.
"I'm happy with the win but I was a little disappointed in the last quarter. It would've been nice to finish with a bit more polish.”
Hawks coach Rob Beveridge was seething after the game at his side's effort.
"It's one of the worst performances by any team I've ever coached,” he said.
"We all need to have a hard look at ourselves in the mirror - myself included - because we laid down tonight and it's unacceptable.”
