LIQUID GOLD: Win your weight in beer
CONSIDER yourself a craftsman? At this year's Roma Show you will have the chance to win your weight in beer.
Next week, home brewers will have a chance to showcase their secret recipes in a bid to win the grand prize of their weight in beer as part of the Home Brew Section.
The overall grand champion wins their own weight in cartons of Hahn Super Dry 3.5 or Great Northen Super Crisp.
Entries will be judged on the following basis: Aroma, appearance - colour, clarity and head (beer) - and flavour.
Home brew steward Cameron O'Neil said he encouraged anyone that does a little bit of home brewing at home, whether that is spirit, beer or wine to enter in this year's competition.
"I'm really pleased to have the Commonwealth Hotel on board again as the key sponsor for the home brew section,” Mr O'Neil said.
"This is there fifth year in supporting this particular section of the show and without local business support you can't get good local prizes like we've got.”
Commonwealth Hotel owner Ben Cannon said if the brew was good enough he doesn't see why he couldn't put it on tap.
"There's got to be plenty of people in Roma that make home brew beer,.
"Bring it out and let's see what it's like.
"We want everyone who makes home brew to put in an entry.”
Mr O'Neil said the winners would be decided by a blinded taste test.
"There are a number of sub sections including beer, wine or spirits and the winners of each section will compete against each other for the overall Home Brew Champion,” Mr O'Neil said.
"We can't wait for this year's entries, just come out and give it a go.”
Entries must be in by Wednesday, May 8.
