Lions are seeking cubs for Leo Club in Roma

THE Lions are calling out to all young people in Roma to come and join the Leo club.

Leo clubs are a youth organisation of Lions Clubs International and are for people aged between 12 to 28.

Lions member David Knowles said those who join in on the Leo clubs learn valuable skills and all while having fun at the same time.

“They learn how to run a meeting properly, you have a president, treasurer and secretary and so you learn all the skills of running a meeting,” Mr Knowles said.

“These kind of skills look really good on a CV.”

Year 9 student Amy York was one of the dozen members who have already signed up to be a part of the club and she said she was looking forward to doing something that gives back to the community.

“I’d like to do something within the community,” Amy said.

“I think it will be a good opportunity to meet new people.”

For the Leo club to begin they need at least 12 members which as this stage they currently have but they are hoping to get around 20 members altogether.

“The Leo clubs are sponsored by a Lions club and representative from Lions attends all their meetings,” Mr Knowles said.

“They are there to mentor, advise them and make sure they are on the right track.

“But basically Leo’s can sort out what they want to do in terms of fundraising, so whether that be sausage sizzles, car washes or something like that.”

Leo club members decide how they would like to contribute to the community and work with a budget, make plans and learn how to work as a group.

The Lions club will be holding another meeting in two weeks time (July 29) to provide further information on the Leo club.

Parents are also encouraged to come and join in on the meeting so they too can find out what the Leo club is about.
