Lionel's dream of owning a Chevrolet comes true
LIONEL Bowden has always loved Chevrolets - their look, sound and feel when they're driven.
So when the opportunity came up to own a restored 1966 Impala, the choice was simple.
Mr Bowden, a member of the Roma District Historical Motor Club, had his latest collector's item on display at a Show 'n' Shine on Saturday along Bowen St in support of leukaemia sufferers.
"I got it about 18 months ago - bought it through 82 Motors,” he said.
"It's my first Chevrolet. I've had a lot of cars since I was able to drive them, and I always wanted a Chevvie, but I could never afford them until now.
"I went down there to buy this GD Falcon, but I spotted this one and took it for a drive and decided to get it. It goes pretty hard.”
Mr Bowden recently moved the car over to a heritage registration, citing the cost in needing register heaps of cars.
"With the cost of registration going up, it's good list them as vintage or heritage cars or as part of a club,” he said.
Show 'n' Shine organiser Dave Summerfield said the event was raising money for the Great Aussie Muscle Car Run, which came through Roma earlier this week.
The charity raises money to assist people with leukaemia.
