Lettuce salmonella outbreak grows with over 54 cases

HEALTH experts are expecting more people to become ill after a series of salmonella poisoning cases in Victoria linked to lettuces sold by major retailers.

Some 54 people have been diagnosed with salmonella poisoning in recent weeks, their cases linked to leafy greens from Tripod Farmers near Melbourne.

The company has withdrawn more than 20 products from sale nationally, some stocked by Woolworths and Coles.

Victorian Health's Dr Finn Roberts told the ABC he expected more people to develop symptoms.
