LETTER: Parole re-think after pedophile, murder tragedies

"SWIFT action on parole system pleases family TB 10.08.16."

The review of the Queensland parole system could not come at a better time.

We no doubt have criminals behind bars in Queensland who will escape prison far too early for good behaviour, when escape is not warranted.

I refer to a recent case of paedophilia, in which the perpetrator received only six months jail for raping a six-year-old girl.

We do not want animals of this character to be released back into our Queensland community after so little jail time.

It is really sad that Mrs Kippin lost her life to a recently released former prisoner on parole, but a good thing that the Premier has commissioned Walter Sofronoff QC to lead the parole review because he is a very experienced former Solicitor-General and will institute a much better system in Queensland.

When the review is complete in November, one would hope in cases such as the above quoted case of paedophilia the offender is not allowed parole, because he has not expressed remorse.
