Lending a spare hand at Salvos
CHRISTMAS is a time for giving and spending quality time with family and friends, but for many people it can be a time of financial hardship.
But Roma Salvation Army's Heather Alley said she wanted to offer an outstretched hand to people in their time of need with the Salvos' Christmas Appeal.
Ms Alley said Christmas could be a difficult time for many people who may find it hard financially, or family members who have lost their jobs.
"We try to help out anyone in need, assisting people with food, vouchers, hampers and other financial difficulties," she said.
"We are giving out toys for those who need them; we distribute more food vouchers, hampers, gifts and meals than any other time of year."
Ms Alley said some parents might struggle to find time to entertain kids on holidays with the added pressure of Christmas.
"Assistance is available for those in need, and every case is taken on merit and assessed, we help wherever possible and are open for referrals," she said.
"We hope to make Christmas a happy time for everyone, Christmas is about connecting with family and friends."
Ms Alley said the Salvation Army Christmas will hold its Christmas Eve service from 3pm. Families in need can gain assistance by phoning the local Salvation Army Church in Roma on 4622 4029.
