Laying waste to rubbish
THE beautiful Maranoa has been left looking even more picturesque, thanks to the dedicated efforts of a number of committed Santos employees who rolled up their sleeves for Clean Up Australia Day.
Battling the blazing heat of Thursday morning, workers trudged along the Northern Road in and around Bassett Park on the outskirts of Roma and collected whatever rubbish they could find.
With the mercury creeping up towards thirty degrees before 9am, it was hot and hard work for the employees, but nothing was going to get in their way.
Maranoa Regional Manager for Santos, Andrew Snars said that the organisation had a long affinity with the annual Australia-wide event and was a great way to look out for the interests of the region.
"Santos has supported Clean Up Australia Day for several years because it's a fantastic program that provides benefit not only to the environment but also the community,” he said.
"Our local Santos staff are very proud of the region that we and work in and this is a small way that we can give back to the community.”
On a positive note, Mr Snars commented that there was slightly less rubbish along the same strip than in the previous year.
