Kiwis head to polls on Sept 23

NEW Zealand will go to the polls on September 23, Prime Minister Bill English announced yesterday. He said the date was chosen because it was almost exactly three years since the election and it would allow him to attend international summits, including APEC. He said National would take "nothing for granted” in the election. On post-election coalitions, he said National would continue to side with its existing support parties - Act, United Future and the Maori Party. Opposition Leader Andrew Little said Labour "can't wait” to start campaigning. - NZH
