Kids slip and slide into long weekend

BARBECUES, cool pools, water slides, and novelty events are synonymous with Australia Day in the Outback, and nobody does it better than Hodgson Hall.

The hall committee organised a day of events including wheelbarrow races, guiding beach balls through obstacle courses with a leaf blower, a water slide, a biscuit eating competition, relays, a very entertaining sling competition, and a social game of cricket.

The sling competition involved four opponents standing inside a sling on the wet tarp and racing to reach cones in the far corners of the ring.

The slippery tarp provided plenty of entertainment for spectators and participants alike.

The rural fire brigade was on hand to hose down the kids in the 38 degree heat.

Co-organiser Jen Rudd said it was the first time the hall committee had organised the Australia Day event.

"We'll be doing it again next year,” she said.

"It's great to get the community together like this and see everyone having a good time.”
