Kids have a ball at challenge
Tennis: A group of Roma students has been treated to the best excursion of the year before the school term has even started.
The 10 students from Roma State College and St John's attended the Brisbane International Schools Challenge held at the Queensland Tennis Centre from January 5-7.
The Brisbane International Schools Challenge is a mixed team tennis competition for 22 Queensland primary schools.
"We knew they were going to be up against stiff competition, but we were so impressed with the kids' attitude, sportsmanship and the way they represented their schools,” proud mum Katrina Hollingworth said.
"This just goes to show that small communities like Roma don't lack options or opportunities.
"They all played really well, they each won some matches and on top of that, they had a really great experience.”
Twelve-year-old Roma State College student Jesse Hollingworth said the competition was a fantastic experience for the 10 participating students.
"It was awesome,” he said.
"I definitely got way better while I was there.
"The people there were really skilled and everyone earned their place.
"We all had lots of fun playing against other teams.”
Roma State College participants: Jesse Hollingworth, Alec Hollingworth, Mat Pese, Jake Rollo, Jonathon Moffitt.
