Jane proud of Hurricanes' defensive pressure

RUGBY UNION: Irrespective of his performance in Saturday's Super Rugby final in Wellington, veteran wing Cory Jane will be able to take plenty of credit if the Hurricanes beat the Lions.

A good part of the Hurricanes' success this season has been their reworked defence - based on rushing tactics to force mistakes and turnovers from the opposition - an area where Jane has provided valuable input to assistant coach John Plumtree.

"When the team talk about John - obviously he's our defensive coach - and when the paper or TV talk about how well he's doing, I get a little bit of satisfaction there too, because I'm behind the scenes helping him out there as well,” Jane said.

"Teams are trying to unlock it and when we don't quite get it right teams can put points on us. But at the moment the boys are working hard for each other and we're putting pressure on the opposition.”

The tactics worked a treat in the Hurricanes' 25-9 semi-final win last week, with the Chiefs turning the ball over more than 30 times.
