JAN Chambers has been rewarded for hard work over more than a decade of local government with her first ever Deputy Mayor role.

Cr Chambers, who was the most popular councillor at the March elections with nearly 8% of the vote, was recommended in the motion passed at the post-election meeting at the council chambers.

“The community has supported me well over the years and I’m hoping to serve them well as deputy mayor,” she said.

The role of deputy mayor, which was previously held by Scott Wason last term, was something Cr Chambers said she would take very seriously.

“I’m hoping to work hard in supporting the council and supporting the mayor during this coming term,” she said.

Councillor Cameron O’Neil praised the appointment of Cr Chambers to the role, saying her experience would provide stability while the new-look council is finding its feet.

“Jan will do a wonderful job and I’m sure she will play an active role as deputy mayor,” he said.

“Tyson will need a strong deputy and Jan’s financial expertise will assist the council greatly.”
