SUMMER fun doesn't get much bigger than the McPherson's very own super slide.

Last summer, Jason McPherson built a 70m long waterslide for the family to enjoy.

This year, the slide is even longer, at a whooping 125m long.

"He always has to go bigger and better," wife Lori said.

The slide has been bedded on 40 cubic metres of soft river sand underneath with a heavy duty plastic lining above.

The water is pumped up the incline and recycled back into the dam at the bottom of the hill.

It doesn't take long for 14-year-old Jack  to complete the slide, travelling at speeds his father calculates to be close 40km/h.

He has two tips to getting a faster ride.

"Get a good run up and try to keep your legs off the ground," he said.

Mrs McPherson said it took husband Jason an hour to lay the river sand with the bobcat, but it took a day and a half to perfect the course and to secure the plastic in place.

Son Jack said he preferred running the course with a boogie board, because he can get more speed up.

Lori said the slide is really rough on the boogie boards, so she bought good quality ones during the year when she saw them on special because they last longer.

"It just destroys the cheap ones.

"So far it's been a four-board summer," she laughed.

The neighbouring kids and friends of the family have been taking full advantage of having a water park in the back yard.

"Our 17-year-old daughter spent hours on it with her friends on Boxing Day," Mrs McPherson said.

Mrs McPherson also said she loved having a go, even if it was a little nerve wrecking at first.

Although the venture has cost a pretty penny, Mrs McPherson said her and her husband don't mind.

"It's worth it. It's good clean fun and young and old can have a go," she said.
