PHOTOS: International tennis star teaches keen bush kids

TENNIS: Proving to their city cousins anything they can do, bush kids can too, Roma and district's young, keen tennis players had the chance of a lifetime when they spent their weekend rallying with a tennis great.

Roger Rasheed, a former international tennis player, coach and commentator, spent the weekend running a performance clinic with some of the best young tennis stars from the region.

"It's a great opportunity for these rural kids to get exposure to a different kind of intel," he said.

"I love doing it. I've done it in a few places around Australia before. It's just about giving more people some more opportunity, when you have to drive six hours usually for an opportunity like this it's a big commitment.

"I've been really lucky to go to the highest level of the game and I want to share that with as many people as possible. I think to have some more of this kind of thing would be great."

Charlie Stevano has been playing the game for half of his life, and knows how lucky he is to have an experience like this one.

"We're learning to attack and also a heap of different skills," he said.

"I feel really lucky to have this experience. My mum (Sherrill) did a really good job organising this and we get to experience hitting with a professional, which we don't usually get the chance to do living in Roma."

Aaryan Nattuvetty, 14, has only been playing for three years but said he'd learned a lot from the two days.

"He's really taught us about how to be consistent and not get angry in your matches," he said.

"I've learned a lot, I've never had an experience like this before."
