Injuries mar Freemantle Dockers’ win

FREMANTLE has maintained its unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 18.10 (118) to 6.14 (50) win over Melbourne.

The victory came at a cost, however, with head injuries to star forwards Michael Walters and Matthew Pavlich yesterday.

Walters went down in the first quarter after accidentally running into Demons defender Lynden Dunn, while skipper Pavlich clashed heads with Colin Garland in a marking contest just before halftime.

Both left the field with concussion but their absence did not stop the Dockers pulling clear at the top of the ladder after five rounds.

The 68-point win came on the back of another best-on-ground performance from Nat Fyfe who had 30 disposals.

The Dockers' other midfield guns also starred with Michael Barlow (32 touches), Lachie Neale (25 and two goals) and David Mundy (28 and two goals) getting plenty of the ball.

Danyle Pearce was also impressive, with two goals, 22 disposals and nine inside-50s.

In a dominant final quarter, the Dockers kicked seven goals to none.
