WHEN Roma resident Barbara Slater last remembers seeing fireworks on New Year's Eve in Roma, the Y2K bug was considered a threat.

Ms Slater is among dozens of locals who would have liked to see fireworks bursting over the Roma sky last Wednesday night.

She said while her family were only in Roma for New Year's Eve every second year, the last time she remembered seeing any family-friendly event was way back in 1999.

"That is the only one I can remember, because not every year we stay in Roma," she said.

"But I do remember there was an event at Bassett Park and it was family-orientated.

"From memory they had a family set of fireworks and then a midnight set."

Councillor Peter Flynn said there is no record of fireworks being used during New Year's since Council had formed.
