Australian's favourite pet names revealed
IF YOUR pet's name is Bella or Charlie, you are not alone.
Those names topped the list of most popular dog and cat names of 2015.
Medibank Pet Insurance released the list and it appears Australians are naming their four-legged friends the same thing.
Bella and Charlie were closely followed by Max, Molly and Coco in both categories.
The data also revealed the most popular breeds, which showed maltese crosses and labradors are Australians' favourite type of pooch, while the domestic short hair and domestic house cat are the most popular felines.
Toowoomba woman Ashleigh Osborne wasn't surprised to see Charlie as one of the top names, having given that name to her border collie.
Her partner, Trent Bassett, had grown up with border collies so it was an obvious choice when they decided to bring a pet into the family.
She said they needed a bit of help coming up with a name so they Googled top dog names.
"We wanted to get a dog so our son Ollie had a pet to grow up with, so he would have a friend from an early age," Ms Osborne said.
"When we named him we actually searched for dog names and found Charlie was popular.
"We liked it too because it sounds like a friendly name.
"I think that's why so many people like it - it's playful.
"Charlie suits his name, he is over-affectionate, licks all the time and is always there when you need him."
