When base jumpers risked it all on killer falls

UPDATE 2PM: Putting your life on the line for a selfie is one thing, hurling yourself off a cliff is another.

As a stunning photogenic location not far from Byron Bay, Minyon Falls is no stranger to stupid activities.

In 2010, a video of a trip of BASE jumpers taking the plunge off the edge of the famed waterfall was posted to Youtube.

As an illustration of the perils of the sport, one of the jumpers in the video, Lucky Chance - whose real name was Toby Benham - died last September at the age of 31 at a notorious Blue Mountains BASE jumping spot known as the "death swing".

The 2010 video also contained footage of one of the jumpers being taken to a hospital emergency ward in a wheelchair after injuring himself during the Minyon jump.

At the time, the National Parks and Wildlife Service condemned the jump warning that people involved in mishaps could be liable for the costs associated with any rescue operation, as well as risking the lives of rescue personnel involved.

EARLIER: A Northern Rivers man has snapped a shocking picture at Minyon Falls.

Kev Graham was at the local spot, well known for its deadly drop where a number of suicides have tragically taken place, when he saw a risky move by another pair of visitors to the falls.

In this photo, shared to The Northern Star's Facebook page by Mr Graham, a couple can be seen perching precariously on a rocky edge in the centre of the water flow of the powerful falls.

"I snapped this one on the weekend out at Minyon Falls," Mr Graham said.

"I honestly have no caption for this stupidity."

A height of more than 100m is not something to mess with.
