Chambers renominates

Jan Chambers is the latest councillor to renominate for the 2012 council elections.

Cr Chambers made the formal announcement in a letter in today's Western Star (page 6).

Cr Chambers, who lives at Glenelg 16km south of Mungallala, was an elected member of the Booringa Shire Council from 2004-2008 and was elected to Maranoa council in 2008.

She is also secretary of Mitchell's Maranoa Diggers Racing Club.

In her letter, Cr Chambers said she still had plenty to offer the region.

"Roma and Injune will see unprecedented growth and impacts in the future owing to the CSG and associated industries," Cr Chambers said.

"This will ensure plenty of challenges for council and a challenge I am up for."

Cr Chambers said she was a firm believer in decentralisation.

"We need to maintain and hopefully enhance what we already have in our smaller communities, some of these communities are experiencing growth but others are not," she said.

Cr Chambers follows in the footsteps of Cr Jason Bartels and Cr Rob Loughnan (mayor) who have also renominated for their roles in the March 31 election.

The other six councillors have yet to publicly declare their position.
