‘I feel like a winner’: Aussie Dream true for Roma’s Swedish Family

Roma’s only Swedish family has travelled throughout Australia and even worked on cattle stations, but decided to settled down in the Maranoa after enjoying the friendly atmosphere and warm weather.

As of Australia Day this year, the famiy of Scandinavians were also naturalised as citizens at a special ceremony in Roma.

Johan ‘Joe’ Stromblad said it was a long journey to citizenship, but has finally made it.

“I feel like a winner,” he said.

Having backpacked with his wife Lina in 2003 and 2004, they went back to Sweden but headed Down Under again with their four kids to live the Australian dream.

And being the only Swedish family they know in the region, apart from one in Mitchell, they believe it will help their kids integrate into Australian culture.

Mrs Stromblad said it’s great to raise kids in Roma, and they have the freedom to decide whether to live in Australia or Sweden when they get older.

“It feels like we’ve made the right choice,” she said.

She also said the opportunity to learn and speak English opens so many doors for the family.

Mr Stromblad currently works in truck sales and Mrs Stromblad as a foster care practitioner at Anglicare.

They’ve travelled to every state except for South Australia.
