Husband ‘surprised’ by his and wife's finance troubles

WAYNE Parry was "surprised" to hear about financial troubles he and his ex-wife were having, when she faced fraud charges in court last year.

Parry is on trial himself, after his former wife, Shannon Peta Parry, was sentenced to five-and-a-half years jail last year for stealing $221,222.20 from Gracemere company Zebra Wrecking's business accounts in 2010 and 2011 to fund the couple's beauty business, Indulge Beauty Spa, in Yeppoon.

Parry took the stand yesterday in the civil matter, telling the court when his ex-wife started work at Zebra Wrecking in June of 2010, he wasn't aware they had any financial issues.

Parry told the court they had previously sold their house in Brisbane before moving to the region and had about $208,000 after the sale.

"Shannon found a house (in Yeppoon) and put the offer in. She took care of it. In the trial when she spoke of money problems it was a surprise," Parry told the court.

Parry said his lifestyle "never changed" when they moved to Yeppoon, they didn't spend money on "renovations or bling".

He said that was why he didn't believe the dollar figure Shannon was charged for.
