Arrest after Sydney women burned to death

THE husband of a Sydney woman, who died after she was doused in petrol and found alight outside the front of her home, has been arrested.

Parwinder Kaur, 32, died in December 2013 after suffering horrific burns at a Rouse Hill house in Sydney's Hills District.

Police on Wednesday arrested the woman's 37-year-old husband and he is now being questioned.

The fire was so fierce Ms Kaur had burns to 90 per cent of her body. A burnt patch of lawn was left where she'd fallen to the ground.

Ms Kaur died in hospital hours after she was admitted. An inquest in 2015 tried to piece together the events leading to her death. What was known is that she was set alight with an accelerant.

Born in India, Ms Kaur came to Australia in 2009 to marry Kulwinder Singh in an arranged marriage.

Residents of her street in Rouse Hill said they heard screams coming from her driveway and saw her rolling down it, engulfed in flames.

Mr Singh was running after her, also screaming loudly, as he tried to put the flames out with his hands, as did neighbours who ran over to help.

Strike Force Whyalla was established in December 2013 by detectives attached to The Hills Local Area Command, assisted by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
