Hunt is on for the perfect bottle tree

THE buying and selling of Roma's iconic bottle tree has caused quite a stir on the local Rural Sell, Swap and Buy Facebook page.

Residents posted photos of their trees of all shapes and sizes, hoping they might fit arborist Russell Clark's criteria.

Mr Clark, who is currently hunting for a total of five bottle trees for a top secret project in Brisbane, said he was amazed at the response.

"Basically, we have a major project in Brisbane that required a specific size and shape of tree.

"They wanted a tall and elongated looking tree, while most bottle trees have a more bellied look.

"So specifically they are looking for a more milk-bottle shape.

"I didn't think I would get such a good response.

"I'll be going on a tour this weekend to look at the trees. I'll be going from Miles to Chinchilla, and then I'll be onto Roma and Wallumbilla.”

Mr Clark said his clients across the state loved the bottle tree as no two trees were the same.

"I like to think of them like humans - we all look different and so do they. They like to make a statement.

"My clients are looking for a feature tree, they are very characteristic.”

Mr Clark, who posted an inquiry on the Roma Rural Sell, Swap and Buy Facebook page, has been overwhelmed with mugshots of potential candidates.

Mr Clark said some of the potential vendors had ulterior motives.

"I've noticed something while on the hunt,” he said.

"Often people have a beautiful tree in the front yard, but that won't be the one they offer me - they'll pick the one that's blocking their shed or is too close to the house,” he laughed.

Mr Clark, who runs Ace of Spades tree locators, is still on the lookout for great bottles.
