House destroyed in fire at Injune

EMERGENCY Services are investigating two fires which occurred within twelve hours of each other on the same street in Injune, one of which destroyed a building.

Roma's Fire and Rescue Acting Inspector Brian Harvey said the Ronald Street property was too badly damaged to be recovered.

"It was extensively damaged in the rear section and the rest was damaged by smoke and water," Mr Harvey said.

Roma and Injune fire services fought to control the blaze.

"The crews did a great job holding it to the back of the building," Mr Harvey said.

The night before fire services managed to contain a small fire at another property on the same street.

Mr Harvey said the blaze caused some minimal damage and the house would be salvageable.

Both properties were vacant at the time of the fires and no one was injured.

Mr Harvey said at the stage police could not confirm if the fires were linked or if the blazes were lit deliberately.

But he said they were "most likely suspicious in nature."

More to come as it is known.
