Female home invader to be released in three months

A WOMAN involved in a violent East Toowoomba home invasion last year when a young woman was bound with gaffer tape will be released from jail in three months.

Joy Teresa Urbani, 44, pleaded guilty yesterday in the Brisbane District Court to burglary in company, deprivation of liberty and robbery in company stemming from the incident on October 11.

Crown prosecutor Amelia Loode told the court Urbani, along with another woman, went to the house shortly before 9am and knocked on the door, telling the home owner they were having car troubles.

"The victim unlocked the door and the two women pushed her inside into the lounge room," she said.

"They then tied the victim, 29, up with gaffer tape.

"They both threatened to harm the woman before proceeding to ransack her house."

Ms Loode said Urbani had criminal histories in both New South Wales and Queensland which included several appearances before the Toowoomba magistrates and district courts.

She said she was serving a 15-month probation order imposed in 2013 when these offences were committed.

Judge Fleur Kingham sentenced Urbani to two-and-a-half years behind bars, but ordered she be released on parole after serving eight months of the sentence.

She took into account the 139 days Urbani had spent in custody, her early guilty plea, her genuine remorse and the fact she was the lesser offender throughout the attack.

Urbani will be released from prison on June 14 this year.
