Is Holden really calling this the Sandman?
THIS is what Holden calls the Sandman with a modern twist.
Going on sale in June, the modern-day Sandman is available in ute and wagon formats - unfortunately there will be no panel van variant which helped etch the name in Australian history.
The 2015 Sandman Special Edition with be based on the VF Commodore SV6 and SS-V variants.
Each model costs an additional $2950 over the standard models.
They will be available in white, silver or black.

Wagon models get 20-inch black gloss alloys, along with black grille, roof racks and fender vents, while there is also special Sandman decals, sunshades, floor mats, dashboard stitching and a unique build plate.
Ute variants get similar features, as well as a black sports bar.
There are two options, a $200 orange shag pile rug for the wagon as well as $300 orange sheep skin seat inserts.
Holden's Sandman was originally launched on the HQ Holden in 1974 as a panel van and ute in a bid to increase Holden's presence and appeal in the expanding recreational market.
What ensued was a car that captured the imagination of a generation, for the right and wrong reasons, and continued to be offered on the HJ Holden (1974-76), HX Holden (1976-77) and HZ Holden (1977).
After more than 20 years in the darkness, Sandman was revived as a concept car at the Sydney International Motor Show, 2000. Based on VU Commodore, this Sandman was a Holden built, Mambo designed project that won wide acclaim but never went into production.
